WALKING HOLIDAYS

Our fifteeenth year of walking holidays will again offer a variety of fantastic routes, some well-known and some more off the beaten track.

We are planning some changes in 2013, both of personnel and of strategy.

Firstly, Anne will be joined by a new walk leader Adrian Legge, who has been guiding in the Lake District for many years.

Secondly, we have decided to slightly alter the format of the two weeks in May.  The first holiday (May 5th - 10th) will offer a choice of Easy and Medium walks, whereas the second holiday (May 19th - 24th) will have (as in past) both Medium and Hard walks.

All programmes start on Sunday afternoon with a short introductory walk followed by four full days of walking, with a choice of walks, covering between 5 and 10 miles with time for stops of interest - scenic, architectural, local history, Lakeland traditions, flora etc.
A typical day would begin by travelling by small coach to the start, walking for up to three hours with a stop for coffee before lunch in a local hostelry or café, often with a real fire, followed by a similar length afternoon walk.  For more strenuous days the hotel will provide a packed lunch.

Prior to dinner each evening there is a meeting in the Brathay Room to reflect on the day’s walking and outline plans for the following day.
