Lake District
People come to the Lake District to be
surrounded by the beauty of the mountains, lakes and rivers
that have inspired poets, painters and visitors for over 200
years. Together they make up a landscape unlike that of anywhere
else in England; add to this unique scenery the picturesque
villages, historic houses and gardens, art galleries and steam
railways and you have an ideal holiday venue for both adults
and children.
Whether you're looking for an energetic
holiday or a quiet, relaxing break the Lake District has something
for everyone... long days on the Fells with the reward of
some spectacular views; peaceful walks by rivers and streams,
a cruise on one of the lakes - either Windermere, Ullswater,
Coniston or Derwentwater; a drive through the valleys with
quaint villages of Lakeland stone houses as well as visits
to areas frequented by William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter
and John Ruskin.
Rothay Manor is ideally situated in the
heart of Central Lakeland making an excellent base from which
to explore the Lake District from north to south and east
to west. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the centre
of Ambleside with it's famous Bridge House, and also 5 minutes
walk from the head of Lake Windermere where you can take a
cruise to Bowness, or Lakeside at the southern end of the
lake.
A pair of Osprey have nested high above
Bassenthwaite Lake in the Northern Lakes. There is a viewpoint
near the nest, and pictures from a remote camera are beamed
to the Whinlater Visitor Centre on the other side of the lake
for people to see the nesting birds.

Rothay Manor is a member of Cumbrian conservation charity Nurture Lakeland. Nurture Lakeland works throughout the Lake District and Cumbria to fundraise for conservation and to promote environmentally sustainable tourism.
The Lake District and Cumbria have some of the most stunning landscapes in the world. However our environment can be surprisingly fragile.
By working with local businesses and visitors to the area, promoting sustainable tourism and fundraising for conservation, Nurture Lakeland works to protect wildlife, landscape and environment, improve access and support local communities.
As members of Nurture Lakeland and with the help of our visitors Rothay Manor raises money for local conservation work 'Save the Squirrels' and 'Fix the Fells'
We are also working with Nurture Lakeland to improve our own environmental practices.
Help look after the places you love and discover what goes on behind the scenes to keep our special landscapes beautiful by joining us at www.nurturelakeland.org
