'A very successful course. I've learned a great deal from this and feel my chess knowledge is much improved. The hotel proved a most suitable venue and the staff were always respectful, considerate and pleasant. Peter made it all very interesting and encouraged all levels of players.'

Mr A, Milton Keynes

'Peter, aside from his obvious wealth of chess knowledge, was a good organiser and did his best to make all feel welcome. So assured was his presentation that I was unaware that it was his first chess holiday.'

Mr T. Edinburgh

Chess Holiday

March 21st - 26th  2010

Game of Chess in Brathay Room

After a very successful first holiday, Rothay Manor is now planning its second. The main aim is for guests to enjoy themselves whilst increasing their knowledge of chess and gaining confidence in using various tactics.  The holiday will include:

* A seven-round Swiss Competion

* A look at famous games from the past

* Four tutorial sessions covering:

Opening principles
Middle Game
Endgame techniques
Chess Tactics (pin, skewer, fork and discovered check)

   * Analysis of games played at the hotel.

Time will be made available during the holiday to ensure that you have the opportunity to see the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District.

The holiday is suitable for anyone from the inexperienced (ungraded) player to local club players, though not for anyone above 150 grading. Peter has experience of dealing with different levels of playing strength whilst in a group situation.
